1. What is the process for offering NACT National Certification exams to our students?

2. What if a student is unsuccessful on the first attempt?
Candidate can retake the exam for unlimited number of times by paying the required fees again.

3. How soon will students receive exam results?
Paper Pencil Exams: The results for the paper pencil examination taken at an Authorized Testing Site location will be displayed on the school notice boards within 14 days. The certificates will be available to pickup within three weeks for the candidates at ATS.

Online exams: If candidate took an exam online, results will be displayed immediately on completion of the exam. The certificate and the transcript will be mailed to the candidate within two weeks.

4. Can our school administer NACT National Certification exams to our students at our location?

Provided that the Authorized Testing Site meets minimum NACT requirements and has signed a facility attestation, schools who are partnered with NACT may administer National Certification exams at their location.

5. Will our school ever be asked to host exam participants from other institutions?
Only students who have completed a program at your school will test at your school. NACT certification exams are available to students who are not associated with an institution through online Examination and our Central Examination Site located in Hackensack, New Jersey OR Brooklyn, New York. You should direct any outside students who inquire to visit the website www.JoinNACTnow.Org and register for an exam at Central Testing Site (CTS) locations. After they have pre-registered, they will receive instructions on how to schedule their exam.

6. How should we prepare our students for the exam?
Study materials including study guides and online practice exams are available for purchase at Please note: the purchase of study materials is not mandatory to sit for any NACT National Certification exams.

7. Who bears the cost of the exams?
Most schools choose to include the cost of the exam as a part of their tuition charges and are invoiced for the student’s exam fees. Options are also available for institutions that prefer to have students pay NACT directly. The students can pay various fees by credit/debit card by PayPal, Money Order OR in person at the Central Testing Site (CTS). The information about the payment is available on the website at

8. What are the requirements to take the NACT National Certification exam?

For all National Certifications, candidates must:
•    Possess a High School Diploma OR the equivalent
•    Have successfully completed a training program OR have a minimum one year of work experience within the field.
Phlebotomy technician candidates-Training/work experience must include performing a minimum of 30 successful venipunctures and 10 successful capillary sticks. These venipuncture and capillary sticks must be performed on live individuals. Candidates are prohibited from using mannequins to meet this requirement.
EKG technician candidates-Training/work experience must include performing a minimum of 10 successful EKGs. These EKGs must be performed on live individuals. Candidates are prohibited from using mannequins to meet this requirement
Be at least 18 years of age

Your state may have additional requirements in order to obtain a license. You should always check with your state licensing board to determine specific licensing requirements.

9. What do students need to bring to the testing site?

For online exams: If you are taking an online exam, you must bring a current government-issued photo ID and original valid credit/debit card.  
Paper exams: If you are taking a paper/pencil exam, you must bring a current government-issued photo ID and two number 2 pencils and exam payment receipt.

10. What is NACT’s refund policy?
There are no refunds offered on certification exams unless the scheduled exam date is canceled by NACT. However, exams may be rescheduled within 4 weeks of the original exam date at no additional cost. Exams are non-refundable and non-transferable and must be taken by the person that is registered for the same exam.

11. Where will be NACT National Certifications sent?
Confidential information is not disclosed under any circumstances. Score results are considered confidential and are sent directly to students along with certificate, transcript and wallet cards.
Information that is not considered confidential (and may be shared with schools or employers) includes certification status, certification number, and the current status of a credential.
